The panels work in a similar way to rice: it soaks up moisture. Apart from providing people in need of water, a significant side benefit is that it could reduce plastic bottle use.

Each year in the U.S., the construction and demolition industry generates around twice as much trash as all of the other waste in cities. The materials often can’t easily be recycled. A U.K. based startup called Biohm is working to help the industry shift to a circular model. By using mycelium, the thread-like roots that connect the fungus, they are ablle to make clean, effective and sustainable insulation panels.
